TPS Designation for Cameroon Ending: I-9 Compliance Update

The Department of Homeland Security has officially announced that Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Cameroon will end. As a result, Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) issued under this status will expire on August 4, 2025.

Key Effective Date

  • TPS Termination Effective: August 4, 2025, at 11:59 PM (90 FR 23697)

Recommended Employer Actions

To remain compliant with Form I-9 requirements, employers should:

  • Communicate with affected employees: Prepare and send a clear notification to employees impacted by this change in TPS status.

  • Run a reverification report: Identify all employees holding TPS Cameroon EADs and take appropriate steps to reverify their employment authorization.

I-9 Reverification Guidelines

  • EADs with Category Codes A12 or C19, showing a card expiration date of June 7, 2025, tied to Cameroon TPS, are officially valid through August 4, 2025.

  • Action Required: Employers must complete reverification of these employees’ work authorization before they begin work on August 5, 2025.
