The E-Verify Status Change Report, first launched on June 20, 2025, has been enhanced as of July 15, 2025, to include a new “Revoked Document Number” field. This update strengthens I-9 compliance and verification services by helping employers identify whether an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) used in an E-Verify case has been revoked by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
What Employers Should Do
If an employee appears on the Status Change Report, compare the EAD number provided during Form I-9 verification with the “Revoked Document Number” listed in the report to determine if reverification is needed. Do not create a new E-Verify case. Use the guidance below:
If |
Then |
Action Required |
---|---|---|
The EAD number used for Form I-9 and E-Verify matches the Revoked Document Number. |
The employee’s EAD is revoked. |
Reverify the employee’s work authorization using a different acceptable List A or C document via Form I-9, Supplement B, Reverification and Rehires. |
The EAD number used for Form I-9 and E-Verify does not match the Revoked Document Number. |
The employee’s EAD is not revoked. |
No reverification is needed until the current authorization expires. |
Reverification Using Form I-9, Supplement B
For employees listed in the Status Change Report with a revoked EAD, promptly begin reverification using Form I-9, Supplement B. Complete all reverifications within a reasonable timeframe. If an employee presents a new EAD during reverification, verify that it does not match the revoked EAD number in the report by comparing the “Card#” field to the Revoked Document Number.
Why This Update Matters
The addition of the “Revoked Document Number” field simplifies compliance by providing clear, actionable data, reducing the risk of employing unauthorized workers and avoiding penalties (up to $28,619 per violation in 2025).
