As of mid-June 2025, E-Verify requires Login.gov sign-in to bolster security. Here’s what EMP Trust clients should know and do:
What’s New
-
You’ll now log in to E-Verify through Login.gov, a unified federal identity platform that enhances security with multi-factor authentication (e.g., authenticator app, email, or phone codes).
-
This transition secures account data and leverages a government-wide login for multiple services.
Effective Date
-
The migration requirement takes effect on June 16, 2025
Why This Migration Matters
-
Stronger protection: Login.gov adds multi-factor authentication (MFA)—via app, phone, or email codes—defending against unauthorized access.
-
Smoother access: A single Login.gov account gives you access to multiple U.S. government services, simplifying credential management.
Key Deadlines to Remember
-
June 16, 2025, requirement to begin migration.
-
Most accounts must complete migration by June 30, 2025, or access will be suspended.
Steps to Migrate (Takes Under 10 Minutes)
-
Log in to E‑Verify normally.
-
When prompted with the “Migrate Your Account” banner, click through.
-
Create (or sign in to) a Login.gov account.
-
Link your E‑Verify account to it.
-
Enable MFA(Multi Factor Authorization) through your chosen method (app, email, or phone).
-
If you manage multiple E‑Verify accounts, consolidate them under one Login.gov account
Post-Migration Best Practices
-
Always click “Login with Login.gov” when accessing E‑Verify.
-
Administrators can still invite users by email, which prompts the Login.gov setup.
-
No impact on E‑Verify web service accounts.
