E-Verify is an internet-based system that allows businesses to determine the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States. It was created by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Social Security Administration (SSA) to help employers verify the identity and employment eligibility of newly hired employees.

Employers who use E-Verify submit information from their employees’ Form I-9 to the system. The E-Verify system then compares it with data from the DHS and SSA databases to confirm the employees’ work authorization.
