Through March 28, 2022, the United States Department of Homeland Security has automatically extended the validity of certain Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) with a Category Code of A12 or C19 issued under Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Syria.

Completing the I-9 Form

TPS Syria beneficiaries may submit a Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, along with an EAD with a Category Code of A12 or C19 and an individual notice issued by USCIS that they received in the mail automatically extending their EAD through March 28, 2022. If so, in Section 2 of List A, enter March 28, 2022 as the new expiration date for the automatically extended EAD. Before these employees begin work on March 29, 2022, you must reverify them on Form I-9.

Additional information about this automatic extension can be found on the TPS designation for Syria, as well as instructions for completing Form I-9 on the I-9 Central TPS page.
